..... Kununurra...nurra....nurra......batman.....(all you 60's kids sang that!).
Today we hit the highlights of Kununurra, another interesting Kimberly location. I would love to be the Crim Safe Sale Rep for this area..... You've heard of the wild west....well......
Kununurra lies on the banks or the Ord River, way back in the 1800's it was recognised that the area could be utilised as viable farming country. It wasn't until the 1940's that investigations began into the idea, and in the 1960's the Ord River Scheme came to fruition. The first part of the scheme was the Kununurra Diversion Dam.
The road into Kununurra, is by no means boring. The surrounding hills and ranges are most impressive. Boab trees are plentiful, and impressive. I thought that boabs were "special" and rare....they are like wattles back home.
Like most towns in the Kimberley, it is host to the mining industry, and provides services to the local communities. The local airport provides service to many of the FIFO mining workers and there are numerous support buisnesses and services in the area. Having seen the parking lot at the airport, I wouldn't mind haveing a slice of the rental car market in the area.....Last time I saw that many Landcruisers, they were being loaded on a ship in Japan......
It is surprising how green the landscape is, as you travel through the area, the scrub, trees and grasses give a green tinge that would make anyone in Western Victoria green with envy......although I'm not sure that the gound has the caqrrying capacity.
Tomorrow I have been gifted a flight over the Bungle Bungles, Lake Argyle and the area....I hope to bring you a few spectacular shots fom my experience. With luck it will be shots of the Bungle Bungles, Lake Argyle.....and not an episode of Lost...
