...and so to Lake Argyle...
Wednesday saw us pull up stumps fron Kununurra, and take the relatively short drive to Lake Argyle.
In the scheme of our travels the 70 km to Lake Argyle is like a trip to the shops..... As it is the start of the 'Tourist Season", sites are at a premium, and we we luck to get a non-powered site. The Caravan park is at the northern end of Lake Argyle, it is a green and tropical park, apparently water isn't in short supply.
Once again the weather has been fabulous, 24 or 25 degrees, clear blue skies, and little or no breeze. (now that you Victorians are green with envy....) we were treated to an amazing sunset and an equally amazing moonrise.
Today we took a morning cruise on the lake, is is a remarkable place. The lake has proven a real asset for the local wildlife, who have adapted well to having a readily available water source.
The short eared rock wallaby is plentiful, we we lucky to see a couple of these little buggers.
Then we moved on to the dam wall, an impressive stone, sand and clay construction, which used no concrete in its' construction.
wildlide abounds
Lake Argyle is home to an estimated 35,000 fresh water crocodiles, whilst not usually agressive toward humans, in fact they are quite timid, but they will give a nasty bit if startled.
They mostly feed on the abundance of fish in the lake, and then there is the occasional bird or bat.
Toothy little bugger
These are archer fish, who capture their food, usually insects, spiders and the occasional hand held bread morsel, by shooting thir prey with a jet of water. They are extemely accurate.
There was no shortage of fish.....
After our cruise we took in the number of view points overlooking the lake and dam.
The terrain is spectacular
After a bit of sightseeing, we retired to the van for some lunch and a rest......
