...Farewell to the West...

While we were at Lake Argyle we took time to visit the Durack Homestead Museum.   The museum is housed in one of the homes once occupied by members of the Durack family.   This house was dismantled stone by stone and stored.   It was originall thought that the lake would take up to 5 years to fill.   Due to two exceptionally wet seasons the lake fill much faster than thought.    The story goes that the farm manager went to bed, and in the morning swung his feet out into a foot of water.

Because of this rapid filling much of the contents, personal belongings and machinery were lost to the water.

This house was rebuilt as faithfully as possible to original, and is a fascinating insight to how the Duracks lived.

After our restful time at Lake Argyle, we again hit the road, and headed toward Katherine.   It was not long after leaving we bade farewell to Western Australia, and entered the Northern Territory.

As per usual...missed ther bloody lights.....

Half way between Lake Argyle and Katherine is the settlement of Timber Creek.   We stopped for the night at timber Creek, a nice shady caravan park.  We were able to watch the footy, had a couple of beers with the neighbours, then were entertained with a croc feeding at the creek.

As these a freshwater crocs, they don't do the spectacular leap from the water that salties do, they are a bit more subdued.  (still wouldn't hand feed one!)

They also tempted a couple of Whistling Kites form the trees.

Today we moved on from Timber Creek towards Katherine, we did have to pause and let this bloke go through.....

Tomorrow we move on to Darwin.......more adventure awaits
