Bev and Trev head east.....

Like all good things, our journey is rapidly coming to an end.  We made good time from Coober Pedy, there was very little traffic going our way, and the weather was conducive to driving....so we did.

We continued south east, stopping for lunch at Glendambo, before moving on.  We refueled at Port Augusta, we had intended stopping before Port augusta, but were unable to find a suitable spot.

So we ended up stopping just short of Port Germaine, while it was a bit noisy, we had driven enough.

        The view wasn't too bad....

And the sunset was pretty good too......

Saturday morning, and we continued homeward.    We made good time agin, the weather was kind, and we made it to Bordertown, just in time for a fine mist to kick in.  (No sitting outside tonight)

We woke to a cool and foggy morning, so we headed off toward home.

We had a brief break in Horsham for a cuppa and a stretch.

We had a good run down the Western Highway and made it back to Lara by mid afternoon.

        The Stats....

                                    72 days away   (71 Nights)

        Caravan Park      51 nights

        Free Camp          20 nights

        Kilometres         16,393

Fuel                    2885.78 litres  (17.6 L/100) (bloody head winds!)

Average Fuel price for the trip $1.80

        Gas Bottles         3

        Flat tyres             0

        Car issues            0

Van Issues            1 (washing machine solenoid played up)

All in all this trip was amazing, the scenery in the west is something to behold.   All those things you hear about the fabulous beaches, the colours of the Kimberley, the wonders both natural and man made  throughout Western Australia are ALL TRUE!

We didn't have time to see everything this time, so that means that we will at some time in the future, we will return.   Next time we will probably go the traditional "up the guts and down the west coast" route.

Hopefully we will get to do the bits we missed out on this time, The Gibb River Road is still high on the list, and there are a few places that we could spend a bit longer in and around.

We had no real issues in securing a site in caravan parks, although some were easier than others (Bev didn't pull out all her hair).    Caravan parks in the north west know they have a captive crowd, and charge accordingly, which we offset with free camps.

We had no problems with any of our free camps,  we didn't have as many campfire nights as I would have liked, but when it's 25 degrees at 7 or 8 pm, you don't need a fire...and a good sunset is hard to beat.

With the weather here, we still might get a few campfire nights....

Finally, it is always good to be home........

We hope you have enjoyed the blogs and sharing some of our journey.

  1. Hi Trev & Bev, have enjoyed following your adventures through Western Australia, Northern Territory and back to home. Your photos were great and your journal has given us a lot to consider when we go west, etc. Take care. Geoff & Carly
