....out and about in Albany...
Once again we woke to a showery and windy morning. After the obligatory housework and laundry, we ventured to the Boat Shed Market for a wander around. It was a small undercover market, but luckily they had a stall that had dream catchers....
From there we returned to the coast and took in the sights of a somewhat rough sea.

National ANZAC Centre
After our vist to the coast we dodged a couple of showers, and after lunch we visited the National ANZAC Centre. This is a museum dedicated to the ANZACs, who set sail in convoys from ALBANY Harbour to Gallipoli. For many of our servicemen this would be their last sight of their homeland.
It was interesting to follow the stories of some of the servicemen, and view artifacts from the various branches of the Services. In this harbour there was about 40 ships, both transports and escorts, from Australia and New Zealand, assembled , in readiness for the convoy to Gallipoli.
The area in which the ANZAC Centre is located is part of The Princess Royal Fortress. The fortress was constructed in the 1890's, to guard the coast from a potential Russian invasion. (the fort at Queenscliff was constructed at the same time for the same reason)
There are a number of guns, other weapons and implacement around the area, we were lucky to wander around the grounds between showers.
